At Upside we are all about reduce, reuse + UPCYCLE.
Rather than creating another product that ends up in a landfill, I carefully selected the candle vessels so they could easily have another life in your home or office after the candle is done.

Here's three easy steps to repurpose your vessel when your candle is done!
1. Put your candle in the freezer overnight
2. Remove any excess wax and the wick clip gently using a butter knife
3. Use alcohol or windex to clean out the inside of the vessel
It's literally that easy. Somebody hit the button, I'll wait!
Oh and if you want to get rid of the label, we won't be upset. Blast that baby with a little heat gun action or use a blow dryer and you can even use the wipe with alcohol from step #3 to remove the adhesive once it's nice and toasty!
Need some Pinterest board Inspo on what do with the vessel? I have a blog for that!

]]>There are so many Candles on the market nowadays! From small businesses (like Upside Goods Co.) to larger brands that mass produce there candles, there are cleaner burning options available for you. After all, you are burning this in your home!
Here are 3 things to look for with cleaner options in burning candles!
1. Wicks
Believe it or not but some candles still have metal core wicks or metal woven into the wick, meaning that they may contain lead or other metals. It's important to find cotton wick or wood wick candles. Even if the wick material is cleaner, pay attention to how your candle burns. If the vessel gets so hot that you can't even touch it, the wick might be wrong for the candle size and could release soot. Again, we are burning these in our home and paying attention to items we spend our money on is important to get what we came for!
2. Wax
I never paid attention to waxes before as a candle lover but that all changed when I started making them... for obvious reasons. The more I learned, the more shocked I became that we are forking over dollars for items like paraffin or petroleum-derived waxes. Not only are these not "ideal" for the environment and renewable resources, but we are burning them in our homes! Can I stress this point enough? Look for soy based waxes or coconut waxes that are available and when in doubt, look for the 100% promotions when it comes to wax!
3. Fragrance oils
Now we all live in the real world and when reality strikes, I don't expect you to be reading the online disclaimers of every candle you buy. But in the event you do, look for candles that promote things like 100% naturally derived essential oils, phthalate-free, or show the "fragrance" to be natural and nontoxic.
If you have questions, reach out and let's talk about it! There's nothing worse then buying something and learning after the fact that something isn't as transparent as we would've hoped!
And of course, you can shop all these quality materials in our candles at Upside Goods Co!

Did you know there are things you can do to make sure your candles lasts longer? Well, there are!
Here are 3 things you can do to ensure you have maximize the life of your favorite burn!
]]>Here are 3 things you can do to ensure you have maximize the life of your favorite burn!
1. Trim your wick
I know I say it a lot. Like a lot, a lot! But it's true, trimming your wick is really important for two main reasons. For one, it allows the candle to burn evenly meaning it won't get too hot or shed too much soot while it burns. Secondly, this allows your candle to burn more evenly too rather than powering through each burn quickly.
2. Melt pools are important
A melt pool is when your candle melts all the way to the point where your wax and vessel meet. This is particularly important on the first burn, but I would argue to say every burn after needs to meet the edge so that you avoid tunneling with your candle and your wick doesn't drown with the amount of wax build up along the edge.
3. A safe place
Make sure you leave your candle is a spot that it will work well with. Mostly to avoid fires or harm, of course, but also to prolong th life of the candle. If it's right under a heating or cooling vent, by a big window or near a draft, this will not work to the candles advantage which means less time of you loving on that perfect scent throw. If you have your candle in a hot spot that makes the burn even hotter (it's a thing), you again are shortening the life of your candle. Fire resistant surface, away from too much direct light or draft is always the best spot in your home!
